Leavenworth, Kan. (January 29, 2010)—Armed Forces Insurance (AFI; www.afi.org ) employees raised $2,530 in a company-wide fundraising campaign to support relief efforts for children who were displaced by the recent earthquake in Haiti.
Half of the amount was donated by employees, with AFI matching their contributions, according to Kurt Seelbach, president and chief operating officer, AFI.
“We're proud of our employees and their efforts to help children who have suffered a great tragedy in Haiti,” Seelbach said. “Their concern for others who are less fortunate echoes that of the military members we serve every day.”
The money will be donated to the Haitian Episcopal Learning Partnership (HELP), a 501C(3) mission agency. The funds will be used to provide food, water, clothing and shelter for the disabled children of St. Vincent's home in Port au Prince, who were left homeless as a result of the earthquake. Six residents of the home were killed during the earthquake.
